Ombudswoman Maria Stylianou-Lottides delivered her report for the years 2018 and 2019 to President Nicos Anastasiades during a meeting at the Presidential Palace on Friday.

Among the paperwork delivered was also a report drafted in her capacity as the national body of the mechanism for the prevention of torture. The specific report had already been sent to the relevant UN committee.

During her sit-down with President Anastasiades, Lottides referred to the challenges faced by her Office in completing the tasks at hand, particularly as regards the investigation of complaints involving teenagers.

She added that there is a constant effort for the eradication of maladministration, where it is observed.

On his part, Anastasiades expressed his satisfaction with the Ombudswoman’s immediate interventions in matters which fall under her responsibility, and for her objective recording of developments.

Anastasiades also lauded the Ombudswoman’s observations, “which contribute to the protection of the rule of law, the prevention and the handling of such cases.”
