Each time a group of skateboarders was asked to leave, they said they would, according to Paphos’ acting mayor. Then, he said, they moved to another spot. By the time the municipality alerted police, it had documented the group’s activity at four public sites.
Acting Mayor Angelos Onesiforou said the group of about 12 adults damaged municipal property while performing skateboard tricks. In a pointed rebuke, he said some people were treating public spaces like skate parks and backdrops for YouTube videos.
Onesiforou said there were photos and videos of the incidents and that police had been informed. He did not specify what was damaged or how much repairs might cost.
The group was visiting from abroad, Onesiforou said, but he stressed that the same expectation applies to anyone using the city’s public spaces. They belong to everyone who lives in Paphos, he said, and those who damage them should be held responsible.
