Patsalides steps up as Central Bank Governor

President Christodoulides picks Christodoulos Patsalides for key banking role

President Nikos Christodoulides, exercising his constitutional powers, has decided to appoint Dr. Christodoulos Patsalides as the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus.

Dr. Patsalides was appointed in March 2023 by the President as Special Advisor on Economic Matters. With extensive experience in senior positions in the banking sector, he worked at the Central Bank of Cyprus and continued his career in the private sector. During the period of 2018-2019, he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Bank Association. In October 2020, he exited the private sector and subsequently provided consulting services in Cyprus and abroad in banking, insurance, capital management, and financial technology.

He holds a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics, University of London (1989).

Dr. Patsalides will assume his duties on April 11, succeeding the current Governor, Mr. Konstantinos Herodotou.

The President wishes to express his gratitude to Mr. Herodotou for their collaboration. Warm thanks are also extended to Mr. Herodotou for his services during a critical period for the country's economy.
