Police arrested two 16-year-old individuals late Wednesday night in Nicosia as they were vandalizing stores along a central street in the city.
According to Police Spokesman Christos Andreou, authorities received information about individuals vandalizing a well-known store on Akropoleos Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, police officers spotted two young people writing slogans on the shop windows.
As seen in photos obtained by 24News, the slogans targeted George Koumas, the president of the Cyprus Football Association.
Upon seeing the police, the youths fled, prompting a chase for their arrest. A few minutes later, they were apprehended, and handcuffed. Upon examination, it was found that both were 16 years old, and one was carrying a spray can.
The two teenagers were taken to the nearest police station where they admitted to the crimes. According to legal procedures, their parents were summoned to the station, with some reacting strongly to their children's arrest.
Police investigations are ongoing, with spokesman Andreou describing the damages as significant.
