Police thwarted an attempt to supply drugs to a detainee at the Paphos detention center on Monday afternoon. A 39-year-old woman was apprehended after she attempted to deliver food containing a small quantity of cannabis to a 26-year-old inmate.
Around noon, the woman arrived at the detention center with various food items intended for the 26-year-old, who had been in custody since Sunday, August 11. During a routine check, officers discovered a nylon bag hidden among the food, which, following an examination by the Anti-Drug Squad (YKAN), was found to contain 1.25 grams of dried cannabis.
The woman was arrested for possession and possession with intent to supply drugs. After being interrogated by YKAN and formally charged, she was released on bail pending a court appearance. The 26-year-old detainee, who remains in custody, was also charged in connection with the drug supply attempt. He admitted requesting the cannabis from the woman.
