The Cybercrime Subdivision of Police Headquarters has issued a warning to the public after receiving a wave of complaints about fraudulent text messages that appear to come from a supermarket chain.
Authorities said the messages tell recipients their loyalty points are about to expire and direct them to click on an electronic link to redeem them. Police said the link is fraudulent and is designed to trick people into sharing personal and banking information.
The purpose of the scam, officials said, is to steal money from unsuspecting victims.
Police urged the public not to respond to such messages, not to follow any links and to exercise caution when receiving unsolicited texts or emails.
