Public transport islandwide will be free to the public on Sunday in the framework of the European mobility week running from September 16 to 22, the transport ministry said Friday.
According to the ministry, the European mobility week has been established as the most important institution at the European level for the promotion of sustainable mobility and for the formation of environmental awareness. Actions implemented in the framework of the European mobility week encourage European local authorities to introduce and promote sustainable modes of transport and to raise public awareness of the use of alternative modes of transport in their city. This year's theme for European Mobility Week is ‘zero-emission mobility for all’.
As such, the transport ministry will be scrapping fares for all bus routes across Cyprus on Sunday, in a bid to promote the use of public transport.
