The Royal visit to the island of Prince Charles and Camilla, who were set to arrive on March 18, was postponed on Friday amid an escalating coronavirus outbreak.
A Clarence House spokesperson said that “owing to the unfolding situation with the Coronavirus pandemic, the British Government has asked Their Royal Highnesses to postpone their spring tour to Bosnia, Cyprus and Jordan.”
The official visit would have been the first Royal visit outside of the British bases since the 1993, when Queen Elizabeth visited the island for the Commonwealth Heads of Governments Meeting. It was set to take place in the framework of Cyprus’ 60th anniversary since gaining independence from Britain in 1960.
