Police in Limassol are investigating the disappearance of a 61-year-old Russian woman as a suspected premeditated murder, following the arrest of a 43-year-old Syrian man at Larnaca Airport.
The suspect was detained on Friday evening and is expected to appear before court on Saturday, October 31, as investigators seek a court order for his remand.
The man is believed to have been in a relationship with the missing woman, identified as Olga Vasilieva. Investigators are understood to have collected evidence connecting him to the case, although he has not admitted any involvement in her disappearance.
Vasilieva has not been seen since October 23, when she went missing from her home in Mesa Geitonia, Limassol. Her disappearance was formally reported to police five days later, on October 28.
Officers from the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department are continuing efforts to establish what happened to the woman and determine her whereabouts. Police have not disclosed further details about the evidence gathered or the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
