Sirens were heard in the Akrotiri area on Friday morning, prompting concern among local residents.
The warning signals sounded at approximately 9:50 a.m. Shortly afterward, at 9:58 a.m., authorities from the British Bases sent a notification addressed to people living in the Akrotiri district.
According to Kourion Mayor Pantelis Georgiou, the message informed residents that a security-related threat was currently underway. The alert also included guidance and instructions for the public as the situation developed.
Officials issued the notice as a precautionary measure to ensure that residents were aware of the potential risk and could follow any safety instructions provided by the authorities. At the time the notification was distributed, the situation was described as ongoing.
