New route to strengthen air links between Cyprus and Eastern Europe

Newsroom

SkyUp Airlines is set to launch a new direct route between Larnaca and Chisinau, Moldova, starting April 19, 2025, with three weekly flights.

The Ukrainian low-cost carrier, represented in Cyprus by Orthodoxou Aviation, announced the new service during a cocktail event at SkyView Rooftop Bar in Nicosia on Tuesday, February 25. The evening brought together travel agents, journalists, and tourism professionals to hear about the airline's latest plans.

Speaking at the event, Daria Alieksieienko, Deputy CCO for Sales and Revenue Development at SkyUp Airlines, highlighted the significance of the new connection. "We see great potential in this route, not only for tourism but also for family visits and business travel from Moldova and especially Ukraine," she said. With Chisinau serving as a key hub for Ukrainian travellers, the new route is expected to attract a mix of passengers.

Orthodoxou Aviation, which has been SkyUp's general sales agent in Cyprus for several years, will handle ticket sales, marketing, and operational oversight from Larnaca Airport. The company's CEO, Antonis Orthodoxou, welcomed the airline's return to the Cyprus market. "This new route marks an important milestone for us," he said. "We believe the Larnaca–Chisinau flights will generate strong interest from the market."

The new flights will add to SkyUp's network at a time when air travel connectivity between Cyprus and Eastern Europe is expanding, catering to both leisure travellers and the growing number of people with family and business ties in the region.
