Heat burst Friday, rain chances Sunday, as yellow warnings continue for Cyprus

Another hot day is in full swing on the island of Cyprus where a heat warning continues to be in effect as maximum highs are expected to reach 43 degrees Celsius on Friday.

An extremely hot pattern continues to affect areas over Cyprus, with Thursday skies mostly clear while some strong winds between 4 and 5 points on the Beaufort scale are also expected in the first half of the day.

Weather officials have issued yellow warnings for Thursday both inland and mountain areas until 5pm, with maximum highs in the interior expected to reach 42 degrees Celsius (107 Fahrenheit) and 33 in the mountains. Temperature highs in coastal areas will be in the mid-30’s, with the west reaching 34 while all other regions climbing to 36.

Evening weather will remain clear while thin fog conditions and low clouds are also expected mainly in the southeast overnight in the early morning. Temperature lows will drop to 27 degrees inland, around 24 in the southwest and west, 25 in all other coastal regions, while it will be 23 high up in the mountains.

Mostly clear weather will continue with a heat burst affecting the island on Friday mainly inland reaching 43 degrees and mountains at 35. Temperatures will level off Saturday but still above normal averages for this time of the year.

Sunday skies will be mostly clear with no temperature fluctuations but suspicious midday clouds could bring showers over local areas in the interior and mountains.
