Weak high pressure is affecting the area. It's late October, temperatures are touching 30°C, and the atmosphere is doing very little to suggest that autumn has arrived. Somewhere, a wardrobe full of jumpers is wondering what it did wrong.
Today: Skies will remain mostly clear, although extra cloud is expected to develop locally after midday. Nothing too dramatic. A few clouds might wander into view, but they're not expected to ruin anyone's plans.
Winds will start off variable and light at 3 Beaufort, gradually becoming mainly northwesterly to northeasterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be slight, making conditions fairly pleasant along the coast.
Temperatures will reach around 30°C inland, 27°C along the northern coast, 29°C along the rest of the coast and 20°C in the higher mountains. That's quite a range for such a small island. If you're too warm in Nicosia, the mountains are offering a cooler alternative. You'll just have to go up there.
Tonight: Skies will remain mostly clear, with a chance of temporary extra cloud in some areas. Light downslope winds will blow at 3 Beaufort, while the sea remains slight.
A quiet evening forecast. No dramatic weather, no need to panic-buy candles, and no excuse to cancel your plans on meteorological grounds.
Saturday, Sunday and Monday: Mostly clear skies are expected over the next three days, with occasional patches of increased local cloud cover.
There is, however, a small catch. Light dust will be present in the atmosphere at times, with concentrations potentially increasing from Saturday. So, just as you were enjoying the sunshine, the air has decided to add a little extra seasoning.
If you've recently washed your car, our condolences. If you've been putting it off, congratulations on your excellent timing.
Temperature outlook: Temperatures will gradually dip slightly through Monday, particularly along the coast, but will generally remain close to the seasonal average. Don't rush to unpack the winter clothes just yet. The change is expected to be modest.
The bottom line: Friday brings temperatures of up to 30°C inland, mostly clear skies and calm seas. Warm conditions will continue into Monday, although dust levels could increase from Saturday and temperatures will ease slightly towards the start of next week.
Enjoy the sunshine, keep an eye on the dust, and perhaps think twice before polishing the car. Cyprus has a way of making that decision for you.
