Temperatures soar to 40°C

Local authorities monitor situation, provide cooling centers

Newsroom

A scorching heatwave has descended upon the region, bringing sweltering temperatures and dry conditions. The Meteorology Department has issued a yellow warning for extremely high temperatures, urging residents to take precautions.

The weather today, Thursday, is expected to be predominantly sunny, with the mercury soaring to a scorching 40 degrees Celsius. The heatwave is attributed to a warm and dry mass of air originating from the Cleon synoptic system, which has begun to impact the area. As a result, residents are advised to stay hydrated, seek shade, and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

The yellow warning, in effect from 11:00 in the morning until 6:00 p.m., highlights the potential dangers of the extreme heat. Inland areas are projected to experience temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius, while higher mountainous regions are forecasted to reach around 32 degrees Celsius. Coastal areas can expect slightly milder temperatures, ranging from 36 to 38 degrees Celsius.

Local authorities have been actively disseminating information to raise awareness about the heatwave and provide guidance on how to cope with the scorching conditions. Cooling centers and public facilities with air conditioning have been made available to offer respite from the intense heat.

Meteorologists predict that temperatures will undergo a slight rise on Friday, surpassing average climatological values. However, Saturday is anticipated to remain relatively stable in temperature, while Sunday may bring a slight dip, still maintaining above-average temperatures for the season.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard their well-being during this period of extreme heat. It is essential to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and check on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and young children.

The local authorities and emergency services are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to respond to any heat-related emergencies. Citizens are encouraged to stay updated with weather forecasts and follow official instructions to ensure safety.

While the heatwave persists, it is crucial to prioritize personal health and safety and to support one another in coping with the challenging weather conditions.
