A tense search for an Israeli vessel has concluded safely off the coast of Limassol, Cyprus. All four passengers on board are unharmed. Authorities report that the vessel experienced engine trouble and is now making its way toward Haifa under sail.
The journey to Haifa is expected to take roughly a day due to the vessel’s slow speed. The boat was located by a research ship patrolling the waters near Limassol.
Among the passengers, three are Arab Israelis from Sibli Umm al-Ghanem in southern Galilee, and the fourth, the captain, hails from Haifa.
The vessel had departed on December 2, but concerns arose when it failed to reach Crete as scheduled. On December 9, the Hellenic National Search and Rescue Coordination Center alerted the Cyprus Search and Rescue Coordination Center after tracking the vessel’s last known position, 90 nautical miles south of Paphos.
