The Digital Agenda Cyprus Summit honors Professor Dr. Loizos Loizou

In recognition of his dedication to caring for children with cancer and supporting their families.

Press Release

The Digital Agenda Cyprus Summit 2026 will honor Professor Dr. Loizos G. Loizou for his pioneering contribution to childhood cancer care and his longstanding support for children and their families.

When he returned to Cyprus in 1989, Professor Loizou set out to establish specialist services that would allow children with cancer to receive the care they needed in their own country. In 1990, he founded the Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Clinic at Archbishop Makarios III Hospital, which he led for 32 years. His work played a decisive role in developing childhood cancer care in Cyprus and achieving survival rates among the highest in the world.

His contribution extends beyond medical care. Through the ELPIDA Foundation, which he founded, he developed initiatives to support families facing the particularly difficult circumstances of a childhood cancer diagnosis. His humanitarian work has also helped children in African countries gain access to lifesaving medicines and care.

The Digital Agenda Cyprus Summit award recognizes a career that has brought together medical science and humanitarian service, giving children a better chance at life, offering hope to their families and making a lasting contribution to health care in Cyprus and internationally.

The award will be presented at the Digital Agenda Cyprus Summit 2026, taking place on Oct. 14, 2026, at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre, under the theme “AI Wars: Challenging the Balance of Power — Life, Work, Country, Region.”

This year’s summit focuses on the global contest for power surrounding artificial intelligence and its impact on work, the economy, innovation, national security and society. At a time when technology is reshaping the balance between countries and businesses, honoring Professor Loizou’s career highlights the importance of service to others and scientific progress that puts people first.

The summit will be followed by the Digital Agenda Night Summit, an exclusive evening gathering for conference participants. Delegates will have the opportunity to meet the speakers, exchange views and continue the conversation in a more relaxed setting, with complimentary food and drinks from Three Cents Premium Beverages. DJ Ilias Hantoupis of Deejay Radio 93.5 will provide the evening’s music.
