The future of civil protection in the Mediterranean

Janez Lenarcic, EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, is in Cyprus for the Nicosia Risk Forum 2022

The Nicosia Risk Forum 2022, which begins on Tuesday at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Larnaca, strives to be a game changer in Mediterranean civil protection.

The #NRF2022 brings important personalities from both the European Union and the Union for the Mediterranean to Cyprus for two days of proceedings, during which a number of research project results focusing on civil protection will be presented.  The Forum is organized by the CERIDES Foundation of the European University Cyprus and co-organized by the Cyprus Fire Brigade and Civil Defence. The #NFR2022 is being held in collaboration with the European Parliament Office in Cyprus and the Mediterranean Union.

Janez Lenarcic, the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, will launch the #NRF2022. The two-day Forum on Civil Protection will be attended by, among others, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Costas Kadis, the Hellenic Republic's Deputy Ministers, Mr. Christos Dimas, Mr. Christos Triandopoulos, and Mr. Nikos Hardalias, and, on behalf of the Union for the Mediterranean, Ambassador Gretz.

Among the many interesting panels will be a discussion between MEPs George Georgiou and Costas Mavridis on the role of the European Parliament in civil protection, a panel between representatives of Mediterranean civil protection, and a panel on the active participation of society in civil protection with representatives from the civil protection of the United States and Mexico.
