Three academics at Neapolis University Pafos have been included in the 2026 edition of the World’s Top 2% Scientists list, with their research recognised across computer science, educational psychology and energy-efficient architecture.

The researchers are Professor Savvas A. Chatzichristofis, Professor Stelios N. Georgiou and Assistant Professor Konstantinos Vasileiadis. Their inclusion marks the second consecutive year that three members of the university’s academic staff have featured in the international ranking, according to the institution.

The list is compiled using bibliometric data from Scopus in collaboration with Elsevier and published by the research team led by Stanford University Professor John Ioannidis. Researchers are assessed through indicators of scientific impact, including citations and research output.

Chatzichristofis, who is Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Vice Rector for Research and Innovation at Neapolis University Pafos, has been recognised in the Career-long Impact category. The classification assesses the cumulative influence of a researcher’s work throughout their career.

Georgiou, Professor of Educational Psychology, also appears in this category in recognition of the long-term academic impact of his research.

Chatzichristofis has received additional recognition through the Research.com Best Computer Science Scientists 2026 ranking, which identifies researchers with significant contributions to computer science.

Vasileiadis, Assistant Professor of Architectural Technology and Energy, has been included in the Single-year Impact category for 2025. This classification measures research influence over a specific year rather than across an entire career.

According to the university, Vasileiadis is the only researcher from an architecture department among Cyprus-based participants in the two categories covered by the ranking.

His work examines sustainable architectural design, the energy performance of buildings and the integration of renewable energy systems into the built environment. These research areas are increasingly relevant to efforts to improve building efficiency and support the transition to cleaner energy.

The World’s Top 2% Scientists ranking distinguishes between career-long scientific influence and impact achieved during a single year. Its assessment combines several bibliometric measures, including citation counts, the h-index and the composite c-score.

The three academics represent different research disciplines at Neapolis University Pafos, reflecting the institution’s activity in technology, behavioural and educational sciences, architecture and energy.

The university said their recognition is consistent with its efforts to expand research activity, strengthen international academic partnerships and produce work that attracts recognition beyond Cyprus.
