Two women aged 25 and 26 were arrested on Wednesday following a police investigation into the handling of stolen money and the operation of a brothel. Officers from Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department acted after a 23-year-old man reported the theft of €6,700 in cash.
Detectives searched the apartment occupied by the pair and recovered the full sum allegedly taken from the complainant. During the search they also found evidence pointing to the running of a brothel at the premises. Both women now face charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour, handling stolen property and maintaining a brothel.
The two occupants appeared before Larnaca District Court later the same day. The court ordered that each be held for eight days while inquiries continue. Police say the investigation centres on the alleged use of the apartment as a brothel and the presence of the stolen cash inside it.
Authorities are examining whether the women were involved in the day-to-day management of the brothel and whether any prostitutes operated from the location. The inquiry into the brothel remains active, with Larnaca CID seeking further information about how the premises were used and whether additional individuals connected to the brothel or to the missing money can be identified.
The case began with the young man’s complaint about the loss of his cash. Once the apartment was entered, the recovery of the €6,700 and the signs of a brothel operation led directly to the arrests. Police continue to gather statements and examine material seized from the site of the alleged brothel.
