Winds whisk away the blazing heat today

Hold onto your hats and stay hydrated as temperatures soar and winds pick up

Newsroom

Today, brace yourselves for mostly clear skies but expect some clouds to gather in the afternoon, especially over the mountains. Winds will start off light to moderate from the southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, but they’ll pick up steam and turn moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort. If you’re on the southern coast, hold onto your hats as gusts may hit a very strong 6 Beaufort! The sea will start a little rough and gradually become a bit choppy offshore.

Temperatures are set to soar to a sizzling 39°C inland, around 36°C on the south and east coasts, 33°C on the north coast, 31°C on the west coast, and a slightly cooler 29°C in the higher mountains. So, stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and maybe avoid any sunbathing marathons.

Tonight, it’ll be mainly clear but expect some low clouds, especially in the west. Winds will calm down to a gentle southwest to northwest breeze at 3 Beaufort, occasionally hitting a moderate 4 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough. Temperatures will dip to around 24°C in the interior and the coast and a cooler 20°C in the higher mountains. Perfect for some late-night stargazing or a cool evening walk.

Looking ahead to the weekend and Monday, the weather will stay mostly clear with some clouds popping up in the afternoons. Temperatures will hover around the same levels, which are slightly above average. So, enjoy the sunny spells but be prepared for the heatwave to stick around.

Remember, folks, while the weather is perfect for a beach day or a mountain hike, the heat can be intense. Stay cool, stay safe, and have fun!
