Europa Donna Cyprus employee arrested for stealing charity money from donations

Newsroom

An employee at the Europa Donna Cyprus, a breast cancer awareness society, was arrested for stealing over €10,000 from the charity.

According to police, a 37-year-old woman in Larnaca who worked for Europa Donna managed to steal €10,611 between 2017 and 2018.

The money came from charity donations, membership subscriptions, and product sales.

Members of the Europa Donna discovered the money discrepancies last week and called the police, who got a warrant for her arrest.

The woman admitted to the crimes upon her arrest by Larnaca CID on Monday, and she is expected to be charged for theft and illegal gains.

It was not immediately clear if there were any other suspects involved in the case, but according to Kathimerini Cyprus the stolen amount has been returned following the arrest.

The Europa Donna Cyprus, founded in 2002, is a non-profit organisation and member of the European Breast Cancer Coalition, which works to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Many activities and events aim to mobilise the support of European women in pressing for improved breast cancer education, appropriate screening, optimal treatment and increased funding for research.
