Zero new cases for second consecutive day in Cyprus

Over 1,200 people were tested for the virus on Wednesday, with all tests coming back negative

The Republic of Cyprus recorded no new coronavirus cases for the second day in the row on Wednesday, when 1,210 samples came back negative for the virus.

The number of cases identified in the Republic since the virus broke out in March remained at 985. A total of 816 have so far recovered from the virus, while 18 succumbed to their infection.

Tests were carried out on 132 repatriated persons and arriving passengers, 270 students and school staff, 10 employees of businesses that resumed operation after lockdown measures were eased. Many more were tested in the framework of government-ordered testing programs, while over 300 people got tested on their own initiative.

Two coronavirus patients were being treated at the Famagusta General Hospital, where one person was discharged on Wednesday. An additional three coronavirus patients were receiving treatment at the Nicosia General, one in a hospital room and two in the ICU.
