The Bank of Cyprus has added 24300 new retail accounts to its balance sheets in the period between July and August.
A large influx of retail clients, which includes households and small to medium-sized businesses has been observed at the Bank of Cyprus. Primarily this development has been a result of the absorption of the Cyprus Cooperative Bank by Hellenic Bank.
According to the CNA, between July and August, 24300 new retail accounts were opened at the bank's branches. 12300 of those accounts have been opened by new customers.
Transactions over the same period reached € 1.7 million at a time when the transaction volume is usually low due to summer holidays. Compared to last year, for the same month, the flow of new customers has more than doubled.
Currently there are daily public hearings conducted by an investigative committee tasked with identifying the reasons and persons responsible for the mismanagement of the Cyprus Cooperative Bank.
