Alpan Group, a member of the Sfakianakis Group, has officially launched BYD passenger vehicles in Cyprus. BYD (Build Your Dreams), the world’s leading manufacturer of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), made its entry on May 28 at the renovated Old GSP Square — marking the venue’s first major public event as a modern, multi-functional place.
Distinguished guests were among the first to experience BYD’s innovative lineup of electric and plug-in hybrid models. The event represented a major milestone for the Cypriot automotive market, as BYD becomes the first brand in Cyprus to offer exclusively electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles — dedicated to delivering innovative, eco-friendly, and accessible mobility solutions.
Globally recognized for its expertise in power battery development and cutting-edge green technologies, BYD is on a mission to “Cool the Earth by 1°C.” Entering the Cypriot market, BYD offers a wide selection of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles that combine advanced technology, sophisticated design, and exceptional safety features.
The first four BYD models distributed in Cyprus through the Sfakianakis Group’s Alpan Group are: the compact BYD ATTO 3 (C-SUV), and the premium BYD SEAL (D-Sedan), BYD SEAL U DM-i (PHEV), and BYD SEALION 7 (D-SUV). These vehicles incorporate BYD’s cutting-edge technologies, with features including the world’s fastest electric motor in mass production (SEALION 7, 23.000rpm), Cell-to-Body construction for exceptional rigidity and safety (SEAL and SEALION 7) and more than 1,000km of range on a full tank of petrol and a full charge (SEAL U DM-i).
The unveiling was part of a prestigious event that showcased BYD’s remarkable debut — blending state-of-the-art technology with luxury and a captivating atmosphere. Attendees included government ministers, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, mayors, members of parliament, and prominent figures from the business, scientific, cultural, and media communities, all expressing admiration for BYD’s technological innovation and refined design. The evening’s exclusive entertainment and the interactive presence of BYD’s robot elevated the event’s prestige.
The ceremony was hosted by journalist and Master of Ceremony Ms. Evi Fragkaki, who highlighted the sustainability strategies of BYD and Alpan Group. She was followed by Mr. Stavros P. Taki, President and CEO of the Sfakianakis and Alpan Groups, who outlined the strategic vision and long-term goals of the company, ushering in a new era for Alpan Group in Cyprus.
In his speech, Mr. S. Taki emphasized the significance of BYD’s presence in Cyprus and its alignment with the nation’s sustainable mobility goals. BYD’s operational launch includes two state-of-the-art showrooms in Nicosia and Limassol, along with a well-stocked inventory to ensure immediate availability of cars to customers.
Mr. Stavros P. Taki stated: “Today marks a major milestone not only for the Sfakianakis and Alpan Groups but also for Cyprus. Our decision to represent BYD underscores our deep commitment to innovation, sustainability, and environmental responsibility. Our vision includes a robust ecosystem that integrates New Energy Vehicles, charging infrastructure, renewable energy sources, and smart grid solutions. We aspire to help position Cyprus as a model of technological progress and environmental stewardship.”
BYD Executive Vice-President Stella Li said: “Our arrival in Cyprus is another important step as we continue to expand in Europe – a key component of our plan to implement real change in mobility. With our recent announcement of a new European HQ and R&D center in Hungary, we’re totally committed to making our sustainable technologies available to as many European consumers as possible – and that means not only our current line-up of hi-tech EVs, and our clever Seal U DM-i smart hybrid, but also, in the future, innovations like 1000kW Flash Charging and our Super e-Platform. European customers love technology and we’re confident that BYD’s ability to make these exciting features available on models accessible by everyone will have real appeal in Cyprus.”
BYD’s entry into Cyprus signals a bold new chapter in sustainable mobility — defined by innovation, quality, and environmental responsibility.
