A crucial round of talks on Cyprus’ Cost of Living Allowance (COLA), known locally as the Automatic Cost of Living Adjustment (ATA), is set to take place today as both trade unions and employers prepare for key internal meetings that could determine the future of the allowance.

At 3:00 p.m., representatives from 13 trade union federations will gather at the Journalists’ House in Nicosia for an all-union assembly. Delegates from the main negotiating bodies (SEK, PEO, DEOK, and PASYDY) will brief participants on the latest developments, after which unions are expected to decide whether to endorse the proposed agreement.

An hour later, at 4:00 p.m., the executive boards of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) will meet jointly at the Young Trusts Union building to finalize their stance on the issue.

The current framework under discussion was shaped during a Friday meeting between the Ministers of Finance and Labour and Social Insurance, followed by consultations over the weekend. On Sunday evening, President Nikos Christodoulides met with employer representatives, later describing the discussion as “very constructive” and noting that final decisions were expected within 24 hours.

The President also held talks with union leaders on Monday evening. According to government and labour sources, the meetings indicated that the two sides are moving closer to a compromise that could pave the way for an agreement on the COLA framework.
