Diesel prices in Cyprus have crossed the €2-per-litre mark, adding further pressure on motorists as fuel costs continue to rise.
The highest prices recorded on Monday, September 21, were at six petrol stations. Two were located in Strovolos, while four were in Paphos district. Diesel was selling for between €2.019 and €2.039 per litre at these stations.
The current prices are approaching the previous record high recorded in July 2022, when diesel reached €2.053 per litre.
Diesel reaches new high
The average retail price for diesel on September 21 stood at €1.945 per litre. The lowest price recorded was €1.865 per litre.
For motorists, the increase represents a significant rise compared with the middle of July, when diesel was selling for an average of €1.569 per litre.
A driver purchasing 100 litres of diesel is now paying €37.60 more than they would have done at the mid-July price. For a household with two diesel vehicles, filling 100 litres for each vehicle would mean an additional cost of around €75.
Petrol also becoming more expensive
The increase is not limited to diesel. The retail price of 95-octane petrol has also risen, although the change has been less pronounced.
On Monday morning, the average price of 95-octane petrol was €1.676 per litre. Prices ranged from €1.559 at the cheapest station to €1.749 per litre at the most expensive.
The latest figures put diesel close to the highest price levels recorded in Cyprus, with motorists now facing a substantially higher cost at the pump than earlier in the summer.
