The number of people registered as unemployed at the end of April 2026 reached 8,962, according to figures released Wednesday by the Statistical Service using records from the District Labour Offices. This marked an increase of 844 individuals, or 10.4%, compared with the same month in 2025.
The Statistical Service linked the rise mainly to higher unemployment in accommodation and food services, administrative and support services, transport, and professional, scientific and technical fields.
Seasonally adjusted figures, which indicate underlying unemployment trends, showed registered unemployment climbing to 10,585 in April 2026 from 10,316 in March.
