A group of British experts from various departments of the UK state services will visit Cyprus, with a view to providing consultancy services for establishing a National Unit for Sanctions Control, that will operate as an independent authority, while to this end US experts are also expected to visit the island, a reliable source said on Thursday.
The National Unit for Sanctions Control will be set up based on the standards that the British Unit on Sanctions has been operating, and will replace the Unit for Sanctions Control and the Advisory Committee on Financial Sanctions currently operating under the Finance Ministry, the same source added.
Funds were released in March by the parliament for the establishment of the National Unit, which was decided in June 2022 by former President Nicos Anastasiades' government.
