US Ambassador toured Limassol port yesterday

US and Cyprus committed to security

Shemaine Bushnell Kyriakides

US Ambassador to Cyprus Ms. Judith Garber visited Limassol port yesterday to tour the facilities of the Eurogate container terminal.

On hand to welcome the Ambassador was Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Works, Mr Stavros Michael, and Limassol Port Manager, Mr Panayiotis Agathocleous.

We had the opportunity to show the Ambassador the significant upgrades we made to the container terminal’s infrastructure and operations since taking over in 2017

During the tour, Ms. Garber was given a presentation of the terminal’s operations and capabilities by Chief Operating Officer Capt. George Pouros.

After the meeting, Capt. Pouros thanked the Ambassador and said, “We had the opportunity to show the Ambassador the significant upgrades we made to the container terminal’s infrastructure and operations since taking over in 2017, with an emphasis on security issues, which were of special interest to Mrs Garber. We also discussed the prospects of further developing the terminal, so that it can become the safest and most contemporary container terminal in a key area, at the crossroads of Europe, the Middle East and Egypt”

Ms. Garber commented, in turn, that she received an excellent presentation of the operations and infrastructure of Limassol port, which handles 90% of Cyprus’ imports and exports. She also pointed out that the US remained committed to working alongside Cyprus to ensure the security of the port.
