The state has paid out €1 million in financial support to 650 professional farmers and agricultural businesses, with another €1.5 million in emergency assistance set to become available through two new schemes in November.
The Department of Agriculture said the first round of support was completed following a March 26, 2026 decision by the Council of Ministers. The measure was introduced to help farmers manage higher production costs, particularly the rising prices of fertilisers and other agricultural supplies.
A further two support schemes have since been approved following a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment. Together, they provide €1,501,200 for professional farmers and agricultural businesses.
The new funding will target additional costs linked to “coloured” agricultural diesel and fertilisers. According to the Department of Agriculture, these costs have been affected by the geopolitical crisis in the Middle East.
The new schemes will be financed entirely through European funds.
Applications open on November 2
Farmers and eligible agricultural businesses will be able to submit applications between November 2 and November 16, 2026.
The Department of Agriculture said further information on the application procedure, eligibility requirements and how the schemes will operate will be released at a later stage.
The latest measures bring the total amount of support approved during 2026 to help the agricultural sector cope with higher production costs to more than €2.5 million.
The Agriculture Ministry said it will continue monitoring the effect of increased production expenses on farms and use available funding mechanisms to support the viability of agricultural holdings and continued farming activity.
