Diplomats, business leaders, and friends of Romania gathered at the Royal Hall in Nicosia Monday evening for a lively and heartfelt celebration of Romania’s National Day. The evening was filled with laughter, music, and good cheer, as over 300 guests enjoyed fine food, drinks, and a sense of camaraderie.
Lavinia Ochea, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Romanian Embassy in Cyprus, welcomed everyone with warmth and grace, setting the tone for the evening. Ambassador Dan Michalache followed with a speech that was both touching and slightly wistful, reflecting on what may be his final National Day celebration in Cyprus as his term comes to an end. “It feels a bit like the song Time to Say Goodbye,” he said, acknowledging the bittersweet moment with sincerity.

The Cyprus government representative responded with a playful twist, likening the ambassador’s years of service to the classic tune I Did It My Way, praising Michalache for his dedication and the strong bonds he had fostered between Romania and Cyprus. Both speakers took a moment to thank everyone who contributed to organizing and sponsoring the celebration.

Guests savored an elegant buffet and a selection of wines and drinks, while warm lights overhead created a festive and inviting atmosphere. A short video highlighting Romania’s culture was followed by live performances of Romanian songs by a singer and pianist, adding a melodic backdrop to the evening as attendees mingled and celebrated together.
The reception blended diplomacy, culture, and genuine hospitality, leaving everyone with a sense of joy, nostalgia, and connection, a memorable night in the heart of Nicosia that will linger in guests’ memories.
