Police issued fines to 20 participants of an anti-coronavirus demonstration that took place in Nicosia’s Eleftheria square on Saturday, while legal proceedings were launched against three others –two organizers and one speaker.
Participants of the demonstration, which featured anti-mask, anti-vaccine, and anti-5G rhetoric, gathered without wearing face masks, flouting government health protocols governing demonstrations, that were imposed in response to the first demonstration of the sorts organized by the same group late last month.
According to the police spokesperson, 20 participants of Saturday’s demonstration were issued €300 fines for violating coronavirus health and safety rules, while three others will be prosecuted.
Prior the demonstration, police had issued an announcement reminding of the new rules protests and demonstrations must follow, including the mandatory requirement to wear a face mask, and to ensure that demonstrators keep a distance of 1.5 metres from each other.
