Man suffers partial amputation of 3 fingers after industrial firecracker explodes

A 24-year-old man was seriously injured Monday afternoon when an industrial firecracker exploded in his hand, authorities said.

Police said the explosion occurred around 1 p.m. in an area of Larnaca, while the man was handling the device. The circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.

The blast resulted in the amputation of the upper phalanx on three fingers of his right hand. He was initially taken to Larnaca General Hospital and later transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where he is expected to undergo surgery.

The Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department is handling the case.
