A Central Prisons Department officer was re-arrested Saturday in connection with an ongoing investigation into bribery, abuse of power, and related offenses, authorities said.

The officer appeared Sunday before the Nicosia District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order.

New charges under investigation include abuse of power, breach of official secrecy, violation of personal data protection laws, theft by a public official, and unlawful possession of property, police said.

The case is being handled by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Police Headquarters.

Police previously announced that three people were arrested on April 10 as part of a coordinated CID operation. The suspects include a prison officer, an inmate, and a civilian.

They are being investigated for alleged bribery of a public official, abuse of power, corruption-related offenses, and conspiracy to commit a felony.
