President Nicos Anastasiades’ informal meeting with the new Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar will take place November 3, the UN announced on Tuesday.

In a written statement, a UN spokesperson said that the leaders of the two communities confirmed the date of their first meeting, set to take place on Tuesday, November 3, at 7pm.

The informal meeting will be held under the auspices of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Cyprus, Elizabeth Spehar, at her home in the Nicosia UN area.

On Tuesday, government spokesperson Kyriakos Koushios said “we consider that a meeting between the President of Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot leader can only have positive results. It will be their first meeting in order to get to know each other and we hope that a climate which will be conducive for their further contacts and the negotiations for a Cyprus settlement will be created.”
