Press Release
The Audit Office of the Republic of Cyprus is organizing the Annual Meeting of the Contact Committee, which it chairs, at the Cap. St. Georges Hotel & Resort in Paphos, on Wednesday and Thursday, October 16 and 17, 2024.
The Contact Committee is composed of the heads of the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of the member-states of the European Union (EU) and the European Court of Auditors.
The topic of the meeting will be migration.
On the first day of the meeting, the Director of International and Horizontal Affairs of the European Commission, the Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection of Cyprus, the Head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Liaison Office with the EU Agency for Asylum (EUAA), and the Director for the EU subregion of the International Organization for Migration will discuss, among other topics, the EU's migration policy and the reasons that led to the need for its reform, the challenges faced by the Republic of Cyprus in implementing it as a member state, as well as the humanitarian aspect of the issue, as outlined by international conventions. Finally, the connection between the issue with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals will be explained.
