Archbishop George of Cyprus has issued a statement addressing the scandal surrounding the Avvakum Monastery, expressing his commitment to a thorough investigation into the matter.

"I assure the Christian population of the Church that it is my decision to fully investigate in all its dimensions what scandalizes all of us," Archbishop George stated. He emphasized that the Holy Synod has entrusted its judicial bodies with conducting a comprehensive investigation, which has already commenced.

The Archbishop called upon the Police and all relevant authorities in the Republic of Cyprus to thoroughly investigate the case. "Such phenomena cannot be accepted in any way and by anyone," he emphasized.

Expressing regret for the reported frauds and malpractices within the Church of Cyprus, Archbishop George highlighted the distinction between the institution of the Church and individuals unworthy of their mission. He affirmed his confidence that the Church will emerge stronger from the current crisis.

As the faithful enter Lent, Archbishop George expressed hope for an unimpeded journey towards Holy Week, invoking blessings for the grace that flows from the Passion and resurrection of Christ.
