A senior manager from the Customs Department is the victim of a suspected arson attack that took place early Thursday morning in the Nicosia district. At approximately 1:30 AM on November 15, a fire broke out in two vehicles parked in the underground garage of a private residence in Akaki. Initial investigations by the authorities suggest the fire was intentionally set.

The vehicles belong to the senior manager, one of which was used by him and the other by his wife. Authorities have already focused on the professional status of the vehicle's owner as part of their investigation, considering the possibility that the attack may be linked to the individual’s role within the Customs Department.

The fire caused significant damage to the two cars and spread to two rooms in the basement of the home, also resulting in extensive destruction.

In response to the attack, the Customs Officers Branch of the PASYDY union issued a strongly worded condemnation. They expressed full support for the victim, stating, “This disgraceful act is not just an attack on one individual but on the entire Customs staff. It is an attack on the values of law and order and democracy itself.”

The union highlighted the senior manager’s reputation for integrity and dedication to his work, emphasizing that the attack was likely retaliation from criminal elements thwarted by his efforts. They vowed to continue their duties with increased determination despite this act of intimidation.

To show solidarity with their colleague, the union has called for a work stoppage from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM today and reiterated their commitment to taking further actions if necessary. They also called on the authorities to quickly apprehend those responsible for the arson and ensure they face justice.
