Athens to celebrate New Year's Eve with silent fireworks for the first time

Silent pyrotechnics, a breathtaking drone show, and a musical journey through time set the stage for an inclusive New Year’s Eve.

Newsroom

Athens is introducing a fresh, thoughtful twist to its New Year’s Eve festivities this year with the debut of silent fireworks. These quieter pyrotechnics are designed to offer a visually stunning display without the loud explosions that often cause distress to pets, people with noise sensitivity, or young children. The change reflects a growing awareness of how celebrations can be more inclusive, allowing everyone to enjoy the magic of the moment.

Silent fireworks produce the same beautiful colors and effects in the sky as traditional fireworks, but with minimal sound. This approach will help reduce the anxiety pets often feel, while also making the event more comfortable for those who are sensitive to noise. It's a significant step towards making the holiday celebrations more accessible and considerate of all members of the community.

In addition to the silent fireworks, the evening will feature a breathtaking drone light show by DRNS.gr, adding a futuristic touch to the festivities. The drones will light up the sky with intricate patterns, making for an unforgettable visual spectacle.

But that’s not all. The New Year’s Eve celebration will also include a performance by the Athens Philharmonic Orchestra, and the highlight of the evening will be the “Roof of Time” show at Syntagma Square. This multi-artist performance will take the audience on a musical journey through Athens’ history from 1945 to today, with the city’s rich heritage taking center stage.

The combination of silent fireworks, the drone light show, and the vibrant performances promises a memorable and inclusive celebration for all to enjoy, whether in person or via livestream with Greek Sign Language translation.
