Re-elected Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zanettou, is set to appear before the Criminal Appeals Court. Zanettou appeared today at the Famagusta District Court, where it was decided to send him to trial before the Criminal Appeals Court, scheduled to convene on July 12, 2024. He signed a bail bond of 100,000 euros.
Police allege Zanettou faces charges including forgery and obtaining money under false pretenses.
Meanwhile, Elikkos Ilias, Director General of the Ministry of Interior, plans to seek an opinion from the ministry's Legal Service.
"I intend to request an opinion from the Legal Service of the Ministry of Interior to interpret the current legislation, determine the charges against the Mayor of Ayia Napa, and collaborate with the Police to assess whether a case should proceed," Ilias toold CNA.
