Simon Aykut, who had been serving a five-year prison sentence for illegally exploiting Greek Cypriot properties, has been transferred to Israel. The move was completed on Thursday, according to sources from the Ministry of Justice.

The transfer followed a formal request by Israeli authorities and was carried out under an international agreement on the transfer of convicted persons, to which the Republic of Cyprus is a party.

Justice and Public Order Minister Costas Fytiris had previously addressed the issue during a press conference on February 9, stating that Israel has, in effect, acknowledged the unlawful use of Greek Cypriot properties located in the occupied areas.

He also referred to a travel advisory issued and renewed by Israel, which advises its citizens against purchasing properties built on land belonging to Greek Cypriots.
