A dramatic manhunt is underway in the Dromolaxia Industrial Area after a man riding a bicycle was shot at multiple times by an armed motorcyclist on Wednesday morning in what police are treating as an attempted murder.
The 47-year-old victim, who is known to the authorities, managed to dodge the bullets and call the police himself, saying he had been shot at several times but was not injured. The brazen daylight attack immediately triggered a large-scale police operation.
Elite police units, including members of the Rapid Response Unit and Crime Combating Unit, were swiftly deployed to the scene. They were joined by a police helicopter and a drone from the Department of Technological Development to assist in tracking down the gunman, who is believed to still be armed and moving through the area.
“The terrain is making things difficult,” a police source said, noting that the area under search is vast and mostly uninhabited, complicating efforts to locate the suspect. Officers are also sweeping nearby buildings as part of the search.
Authorities have yet to release a motive or identify the suspect but said all possibilities are being investigated.
Residents and businesses in the area have been urged to remain alert while police continue the search.
This is a developing story.
