Viper caught near Limassol hospital (video)

Yannis Angelis warns public to stay alert, as snake activity increases after wildfires.

Newsroom

After a brief break from live snake-catching broadcasts, well-known reptile rescuer Yannis Angelis made a dramatic return on Tuesday evening, sharing footage of a tense rescue in Polemidia, just a stone’s throw from Limassol General Hospital.

The snake in question? A venomous viper.

Locals had spotted it slithering near their property, which borders farmland and open fields, and wisely kept their distance. Angelis, known for his calm demeanor and quick reflexes, arrived on the scene shortly after. Within minutes, he had located the snake and safely snatched it up using a specialized grabbing tool.

Angelis reminded viewers to always stay at least a meter away from a snake and to be extra cautious during evening hours, when snakes are more active in their search for food and water.

He also noted that the recent wildfires in the area have likely made things worse.

“Many snakes were burned,” Angelis said. “Those that survived are struggling. If you don’t need to water, don’t. Unnecessary water only attracts them.”

With the dry heat pushing more wildlife toward residential zones, Angelis’s message was clear: Stay alert, give snakes space, and don’t panic—just call an expert.
