Cypriot authorities arrested one person Wednesday afternoon following a maritime pursuit off the southeastern coast of the island that involved warning shots.
The incident began around 3 p.m. local time, when a vessel carrying a single individual was detected within the territorial waters of the Republic of Cyprus near Cape Greco. According to officials, the boat failed to comply with orders to stop, prompting a chase by maritime police.
During the pursuit, law enforcement officers discharged warning shots in an effort to force the vessel to halt. The boat was eventually intercepted and brought to a stop.
The individual aboard was taken into custody and is expected to be questioned by authorities. No injuries were reported.
