The cabinet, under President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades, has decided on Wednesday to shorten the recommended time of isolation for persons who are contacts of people with COVID-19 to 10 days.

A press release issued by the Presidency quoted acting Government Spokesperson Niovi Parisinou as saying that the decision will come into effect from 24th January 2022.

She said that “release earlier than 10 days is allowed after a negative PCR test on the 7th day of contact or later at the contact’s own expense”.

The Cabinet also decided on Wednesday that the validity period for the Covid recovery certificate will be reduced to 90 days for domestic use (from the original 180 days).  This will take effect on January 31, 2022, and will apply to all Certificate holders regardless of whether they have issued it before that date.

These certificates will continue to be issued through the platform www.eudcc.gov.cy and the start date of the certificate will be the date of release of the individual. It will be valid for domestic use up to 90 days from the date of the first positive laboratory test.

However, according to European regulation, recovery certificates are still considered valid for up to 180 days for travel purposes, depending on the country of arrival.  In the event it is used for travel, the traveler should consult the Re-0pen EU website at reopen.europa.eu or the national authorities of the country of arrival in order to confirm the certificate's validity as some countries may differ in its regulations.
