If your television suddenly stops showing your favorite channels in the coming months, it may not be a problem with your antenna; it could be because your TV is not compatible with Cyprus’ new digital broadcasting system.
The Department of Electronic Communications under the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy is urging households to check their televisions and switch to the new digital TV platform before the deadline.
The transition period, during which the old and new networks are operating at the same time, will continue until October 10, 2026.
Authorities are advising citizens not to wait until the last minute and to take a few simple steps to ensure they continue receiving television services without interruption.
How to check if your TV is ready
The first step is simple: rescan your television channels.
If, after the rescan, you can find channels broadcasting in HD (high definition), your television is compatible with the new technology.
If HD channels do not appear, your TV may not support the new system.
In that case, households will need to purchase a suitable digital decoder, which must carry the CE safety marking, to continue receiving broadcasts.
Still having problems? Check your antenna
If your television is compatible, but you are still experiencing problems with reception, authorities recommend checking:
- your antenna,
- your cables and wiring,
- the overall installation.
Technical guidance can also be requested through the service center at Hellas Sat at 22000737.
Who needs to rescan?
Not everyone needs to take action.
Households that are already receiving the new platform’s signal do not need to rescan their televisions again.
Authorities also reminded viewers that the new platform continues to offer high-definition (HD) picture quality.
The message from officials is simple: check your TV now, rather than waiting until the old signal disappears.
