The previous digital television network has been switched back on for a temporary three-month period, giving households in Cyprus extra time to complete the changeover to the country's new broadcasting platform.
The Department of Electronic Communications, under the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, announced that the former Velister platform resumed operation on Friday, 10 July. It will broadcast alongside the new network until the end of the transition period.
Officials said the extension was introduced to help viewers who are still unable to receive television channels after the recent changeover. The additional time allows affected households to resolve reception issues without immediately losing access to broadcasts.
Depending on individual circumstances, viewers may need to retune their television sets, purchase a compatible digital decoder, or make changes to their home antenna or reception equipment.
Households wishing to reconnect to the previous platform can scan for the channels that carried its signal before 30 June. Authorities also confirmed that recently purchased televisions and newer digital decoders are capable of receiving broadcasts from both the old and new platforms.
The Department stressed that the temporary return of the previous network is intended only to support a smooth transition to the new terrestrial digital television system. Once the three-month period expires, broadcasting will continue solely through the new platform.
