The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is set to introduce its first English-language undergraduate degree programme in Cyprus as part of its continuing expansion on the island.
The new four-year programme, titled BA in the Archaeology, History, and Literature of Ancient Greece, will be offered from the upcoming academic year and is aimed primarily at international students.
Taught entirely in English, the course will explore the civilisation of ancient Greece through subjects including Greek archaeology, ancient Greek history and literature. Students will also study the modern Greek language.
A significant part of the programme will take learning beyond the classroom. Students will participate in specially organised field courses at archaeological museums and monuments in Cyprus, while an educational trip to Greece will also form part of their studies.
The introduction of the programme adds to the academic activities of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens' Cyprus branch, which currently includes four schools: the School of Health Sciences, the School of Economics and Political Sciences, the School of Philosophy, and the School of Education.
The university's growing presence in Cyprus reflects its efforts to attract students from outside Greece while developing academic programmes connected to the island's historical and cultural setting.
