Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides received full military honors in Berlin on Friday, where German Chancellor Friedrich Merz welcomed him to the Chancellery for a round of high-level discussions on European and regional matters.

Christodoulides arrived to the sound of both countries’ national anthems, played by a band of the German Armed Forces. The two leaders then inspected a guard of honor before heading inside for a private meeting.

According to the schedule, the talks will be followed by a working lunch with senior officials from both sides. The agenda is expected to include EU affairs, migration, energy cooperation, and developments in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The president is accompanied by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, Cyprus’ Ambassador to Germany Maria Papakyriakou, Diplomatic Office Director Doros Venezis, and other officials.

Joint statements by Merz and Christodoulides are planned later in the day, before the president departs Berlin.
