31 people were confirmed positive for the virus in the Republic on Friday after an additional 819 samples were processed in labs across Cyprus, raising total coronavirus cases to 595.

The coronavirus death toll in the Republic of Cyprus remained stable at 10.

The 31 new cases involve 15 contacts of other known cases, one person who had traveled abroad, and another 15 whose history is still under investigation.

According to the Health Ministry’s team of experts on Friday, 58 people have so far recovered from the virus.

Since coronavirus broke out on the island on March 9, labs across Cyprus have so far conducted a sum of 16,308 coronavirus tests.

“Current efforts are begging to show their effectiveness, but it’s not the time to relax,” Dr Marios Loizou, scientific director of the State Health Services Organization said, adding that 31 new cases may be less than the 38 announced on Thursday, “but 31 is still a big number.”
